Tips and Techniques
Using Templates

Step 1

Template has two lines. Align the lines to the album's top and left border.  Tape template to the album's edge and platform. Tape will not hurt the book cloth. The template is designed to center the graphic image on a 12x12 CM album. With graphic die in place, Typeholder in the down position, bring Typeholder to an almost touching position on top of the template. Looking at it's position adjust your platform accordingly to have both your die and template match up.

Step 2

Now that your template and die matched up, flip your Typeholder in an up position and flip your template out of the way but not removed. Imprint your image.

Step 3

To imprint additional images, simply move your album around the platform aligned to the template's image, securely clamp and imprint.

Step 4

Flipping the template out of the way may cause your template to bend or crease, to be sure your typeholder is properly aligned up for the next image, use your steel ruler to flatten while you're adjusting the platform.

How To Imprint Padded Scrapbooks

Step 1

Some albums have a thick padding that may require you to tape off the area to be imprinted. The example shown is a Westrim Soft Leatherette. With album securely in place and properly positioned, make a blind impression. Lift your typeholder in the up position. Using craft type painter's tape, tape has a light tack on one edge, you will tape off the area around the debossed image. Place the sticky side of  the tape closest to the image. Go around entire image. To ensure that your typeholders brass jaws will not sink into the album on the tape, place a thin cardboard piece just where they would hit.

Step 2

Use the same procedure on text lines. Any overprint of foil will be on the tape vs the album.

Level Your Kwikprint Platform

Step 1

Many times when you can not achive a solid imprint, more times than not it is due to your platform not being level.  Note: DO NOT use a bubble level tool for this procedure, it will not work.

First separate your brass jaws 3 or 4 inches and pull your typeholder all the way down touching your platform. Examine carefully the front and the back of your brass jaws. Are all four ends touching the platform evenly? Do you see a gap between your platform and the type jaws in any of the corners?  If so  your platform is not level.

Step 2

Under your platform you will locate 4 adjusting bolts, each with a lock nut above and below the lower platform. Determine which corner of the platform needs to be raised or which corner needs to be lowered.

Raise Platform:

Using a wrench on the bottom bolt, turn the bottom bolt to the left (clockwise) about a half a turn. Then, tighten the top bolt by turning to the left ( Clockwise)

Lower Platform

Using a wrench on the top bolt  turn the top bolt to the right ( counter-clockwise) about a half of turn. Then tighten the bottom bolt by turning to the right ( counter-clockwise)

These steps may need to be repeated several times to completely level. Once level you will see a significant improvement with stamping results.

Measure and Square to the album's border

It's very important that you measure to the album's border rather than square your album to the platform. Often times the album's book cloth covering is not adhered square to the album itself which will result in your line of text looking a bit crooked when imprinting.

Measure to the back of the type in both the far right and far left positions to the border. In this example the line of text will be imprinted 3" down from the border.

Imprinting Album Spines
Spine Imprinting:
Album Spines are really very easy to imprint. Place your red rubber mat on the platform horizontally and place your spine on top of the red rubber mat also Horizontally. Align your typeholder so that the spine is centered top to bottom and side to side and use a quick firm imprint. Remember there is no padding on the spine so use caution as to using too much pressure.  You may also imprint spines in the vertical position just by turning your mat and spine around.

Use the wooden or plastic straps to hold your spine flat on your platform.

If you are doing multiple spines at a time, use your right angle gauges as a placement guide, they will save you a lot of time setting up. For example, if you are embossing spine lines, do them all at once and the go back for the text or graphics.
